Join Us In Minneapolis

As many of you already know, Headzup's satirical cartoons have been known to traverse the globe within minutes of publication by being passed from cell phone to cell phone as forwarded picture messages. By carefully crafting our daily cartoons to "fly under the radar" of monopolistic mobile network operators, we are working to establish an early beachhead from which other progressive voices can be heard.

Pentagon Pundits Jeopardize America's Free Press

Yesterday, the New York Times exposed a secret Pentagon campaign to infiltrate the media with pro-war propaganda.

The scheme reaches all the way to the Bush White House, where top officials recruited dozens of "military analysts" to spread favorable views of the war via every major news channel -- without revealing they were working from Pentagon scripts and often lobbying for major military contractors.

Spreading "covert propaganda" is illegal under federal law. Congress must investigate these military pundits and their ties to the Bush administration, defense contractors and our national news media.

The Great American Horse Race

On November 2004, I was just a year younger that the required legal voting age. As a senior in high school, I felt that I had a great right (I felt superior because I was an upperclassman) to participate in our country’s most important decision: voting for the next President. I had a mini rant amongst my group of friends, as we joked about petitioning to lower the legal voting age.

Sinclair Wants Your Local Station

The Big Media giant that made waves during the last election for its heavy-handed biased coverage, is setting its sites on more local stations in more communities across the US.

Research shows that locally owned broadcast TV and radio stations give more time to local news and public affairs programs that are of concern to local people. Additional research shows that local ownership leads to a greater diversity of viewpoints on the airwaves. And common sense suggests that a large number of local owners in a given community are going to foster more competition than a few mega corporate owners. These three principals – localism, diversity, and competition – are at the heart of the FCC’s mission.

Media Manipulation of the 2008 Presidential Race

Why is the 2008 Presidential race suddenly about gender and ethnicity? It’s no surprise that people base their impressions of others on familiarity and subconscious comfort levels. But when does the media focus change start affecting the news instead of reporting it? What will it take to get the media & the public to intellectually assess candidates instead of falling back on emotional responses? More importantly, will the media focus on Clinton’s gender and Obama’s race continue to obliterate the last of the “other” Democratic Primary candidates, John Edwards?

The Funny Thing About Big Media

Big Media is a serious issue, but sometimes it is out most serious issues that make the best satire. Big Media's reliance on junk news and celebrity gossip has gotten so abhorent, and so pervasive that sometimes it is hard not to laugh. If you don't laugh, you might just cry.
