Some more suppressed news from Joe's Union Review

Most people aren't even aware that 35,000 workers are laid off because of the American Axle Strike, theres a lot more stuff you may not know, my job is bringing it to the public with some semblance of journalistic integrity

Public Interest vs. Corporate Lobbying

Today, the Washington Post published a wonderful profile of Free Press' policy director Ben Scott.

I take issue with the insinuation that Free Press somehow isn't truly populist because Google happens to agree with us on Net Neutrality. It's not like they (or any other corporation) are funding our efforts.

But I digress. By far the most interesting tidbit in the piece is the mention of lobbying expenditures. Read more »

Momentum Builds for FCC Veto on Capitol Hill

The FCC Is in the Hot Seat

Last week, a bipartisan group of senators introduced a “resolution of disapproval” – a bill that would nullify the Federal Communications Commission’s decision to gut media ownership rules. The bill already has nearly 20 co-sponsors.

Yesterday, Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.), Joe Barton (R-Texas), Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), and John Shimkus (R-Ill.) sent a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, stepping up their investigation of the agency’s ability to protect and manage the public’s airwaves.

A View From Outside the Hearing

I want to take a moment and step back from all the news about the Boston FCC hearing that has emerged over the past 24 hours. In cases such as these, the rhetoric can get pretty heated and accusations, assertions and interpretations can get recast, reframed, and re-imagined as the story spreads across the Web. I’ll admit, as one of the people who sat for hours at the bottom of the stairs that led up to the FCC hearing, that it’s exciting to see the coverage of Comcast’s underhanded techniques. But in the back-and-forth, it’s easy to fixate on some minor detail of the story, picking apart Comcast’s statement or over-analyzing on-the-ground accounts.

More suppresed news you may have missed, 46 stories from Feb. at Joe's Union Review

I got myself 46 stories in 26 days of Feb, quite a few are in the suppressed news catagory. Some articles cover the gamut of ideals seen here at freepress. Most of them go back to the idea that there is a war on the middle class worker here in the US and around the entire globe. Take a look, let me know what you think.

Comcast's Closed Internet

The FCC investigation of Comcast's violations of Net Neutrality is in full swing. Thousands of Free Press activists have weighed in, and yesterday Free Press and its allies in the SavetheInternet.com Coalition filed extensive research and legal analysis of what Comcast is doing (if you have been following the issue closely, you should enjoy all 100 pages).

Comcast is now playing defense.

Rep. Ander Crenshaw's Response

Responding to the Action Alert of this afternoon, I sent the suggested email to my congressman, Rep. Ander Crenshaw. It's interesting to note that he did not directly address the legislation that the action alert was about, but addressed an older measure that had been introduced in the Senate.

Quoted here, is Rep. Ander Crenshaw's (R-FL-4thDist) response to me

Congressman Nadler, You've Been Had!

Congressman Nadler's recent Op-Ed in the New York Times, "We Interrupt This Broadcast" is full of misinformation and verifiable incorrect assertions. Folks like former FCC Senior Counsel, Kenneth Carter, and Matthew Lasar over at ars technica have already taken the piece to task for reading like a spin project of the National Association of Broadcasters. Since I've had a bit more time to address Congressman Nadler's Op-Ed rather than just focus on the propaganda aspects of the piece, I thought I'd provide some primary sourcing to directly refute the main points of his article.
