Eco-media in the Arts: Transnational Temps

Why "Earth Art for the 21st Century"? Like a lot of people, the artists who formed Transnational Temps in 2001 (info about the collective follows this article) sensed that coverage of global warming and other environmental issues was woefully inadequate. Commercially sponsored "informative" programming continues to suffer from attention deficit disorders, to say nothing of conflicts of interest. The Internet has presented a means to address the situation.

Join Us In Minneapolis

As many of you already know, Headzup's satirical cartoons have been known to traverse the globe within minutes of publication by being passed from cell phone to cell phone as forwarded picture messages. By carefully crafting our daily cartoons to "fly under the radar" of monopolistic mobile network operators, we are working to establish an early beachhead from which other progressive voices can be heard.

Homogenization of Radio: Let us all give thanks and pay grateful homage to Clear Channel

That’s what Professor Jeff Milyo told me near the end of a radio interview l did with him in February. It was something of a parting shot he left for critics of a study he conducted for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on media cross-ownership, but it strikes me that he could have been describing himself.

The Great American Horse Race

On November 2004, I was just a year younger that the required legal voting age. As a senior in high school, I felt that I had a great right (I felt superior because I was an upperclassman) to participate in our country’s most important decision: voting for the next President. I had a mini rant amongst my group of friends, as we joked about petitioning to lower the legal voting age.
