Free Press Action Network Usage Policy

While we don’t want to shackle you to a burdensome legal agreement, you do need to agree to the following terms and conditions in order to join, use, or visit the Free Press Action Network.

You agree to play nice.
You agree not to use this network to communicate anything that is false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, threatening, invasive of a person’s privacy, profane, or otherwise violates the law or reasonable community standards.

You agree not to use the Free Press Action Network tools for commercial purposes, solicitations, or activities unrelated to media reform activism.
All tools and resources made available through the Free Press Action Network, including blogs and networking tools, are to be used to facilitate and promote media reform news, information and policy activism. The Free Press Action Network site is not an online store, a dating service, or even a place to engage in activism on issues unrelated to media reform policy. You agree to use the Free Press Action Network only for its intended purposes. You further agree not to use the Free Press Action Network to sell or solicit any commercial product or service or to communicate about issues, ideas, or events unrelated to media reform policy.

You agree that information you post is subject to modification, deletion, copying and distribution.
We respect site users’ desire to communicate with each other through this site and generally will not meddle with information posted by users. However, any communication you post or transmit via the site (“User Submissions”) will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. Free Press reserves the right to refuse to post, or remove any User Submissions, or to temporarily or permanently block access to the network by a user, for any reason that we determine to be in the best interests of this online community.

Also, by using this network, you grant Free Press, Free Press Action Fund, and their successors and assigns (collectively, “Free Press”) a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the Free Press Action Network and Free Press's activities, including without limitation the right to promote and redistribute part or all of the Free Press Action Network (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. For example, we may delete posted content that violates usage policies, or we may share or publish submitted content in print media. We will do our best to notify you when material you have posted has been used in such ways — particularly if we’re distributing something you’ve done!

You agree to abide by copyright law.
Intellectual property law has its problems, but that doesn’t mean you can break it here. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned, or properly licensed for use, by you (unless the use of such materials falls under “fair use” provisions of copyright law).

Posts to this site are considered public domain. If you wish to apply conditions to the use of your work we encourage you to consider use of Creative Commons licensing. (For more information see: http://creativecommons.org/).

You agree to accept personal responsibility.
We monitor the site and try to catch anything inappropriate, but it’s nearly impossible for us to review everything. So you need to know that Free Press is not responsible for the content of any postings or messages by third parties. The opinions expressed in User Submissions are not necessarily those of Free Press, and nothing in the User Submissions should be understood as such or otherwise attributed to Free Press. Free Press does not support or oppose the election of any candidate for public office, and nothing contained in any posting on the network should be construed as an endorsement for or against a candidate’s election. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages and postings and you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Free Press, its affiliates, its and their officers, directors, agents and employees against any claim based upon your use and/or transmission of your message(s) and posting(s).
